LUNCH SURPRISE IN BUDAPEST

When I visit a new country or place, I always cannot wait to try the local food, to sip on local wine, and to enjoy a local dessert. Exactly those things which I did in Budapest…

Our trip to Budapest was half business and half a leisure trip. We spent there less than 24 hours but I know now that I want to come back for some more beautiful photos of stunning architecture and to come for more of old good Hungarian hospitality. As we live in Vienna, which is 2,5 hrs away from Budapest, we traveled by train. This is a very comfortable, and not an expensive way to get there. You can purchase tickets right on the website of Austrian railways ÖBB.

When I first came to Budapest I knew that the food will be better than I would expect. Hungarian cuisine is famous for its “GOULASH” or in English translated “beef stew”. We didn’t have any plans regarding our lunch. So we were wandering around and spontaneously decided to visit a hidden cute place called HILDA which we came across while admiring the beautiful architecture of Hungary’s Capital City. We were very nicely surprised when we entered this place. Beautiful decorated, clean, and classy. Our waiter spoke English and was highly friendly. We noticed that this restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and also dinner. There are very few dishes on the menu so that is something which already indicates that you are in a very good restaurant with freshly made dishes.

As I got the starter I knew that I will be loving the main as well. I was literally licking my fingers after I finished my appetizer – Chicken liver pate with mango chutney and some toasted brioche bread. Yummy! Recommending! And because we were in Hungary – I couldn’t have left without having a proper meat dish! So I ordered a pork medaillons with sauerkraut. (that is the red thing on my plate 😀 ). My husband was having parmesan risotto and fish soup and both were ultimately delicious.

The only thing I really regret, that we didn’t know about this place before. Next time it will be the first restaurant we will be visiting – and will visit for breakfast!
